I used to find it really difficult to understand why people would want to get their makeup professionally done for their wedding day – simply because when it came to my wedding day,  I felt like I wouldn’t feel like myself if someone else did my makeup. Don’t get me wrong – a good makeup artist is priceless, but I sincerely believe that if you are capable of doing your day-to-day makeup you can definitely do your own makeup for that one special day. At the end of the day you will be able to achieve exactly what YOU want. It just needs a few extra touches and they are mainly:

1. Use Waterproof make up ( you know you’ll cry!Look at me..I was a mess! Not really..happy to report that my makeup did hold up! :) )

2. Don’t use any products with  SPF in them   ( most of them leave an ugly white cast in photos)

3. Layer, layer, layer ( that’s the only way you’ll get it to last all day)  : I used my foundation ( MAC Studio Sculpt in NC42), Vichy DermaBlend setting powder ( this thing lasts through anything!!) and Ben Nye’s Banana yellow on top

4. Use a setting spray ( I’m a big fan of the Skindinavia original spray) and

5. Practise Practise Practise! : This is if you’re not used to wearing makeup on a daily basis and want to be sure that your look is going to turn out just the way you want it!

I was lucky enough to have 2 weddings( to the same person!) in more than one location on account of our family being spread all over. I did my own makeup both times and used very similar products and it held up very well both times.
