Gaby

Hi everyone! My name is Gaby  – I’m a writing-enthusiast, full-time date-analyst and mother to a super-cute little girl who is everything to me!   I’m guest posting on How Does Dee Do It today to share my thoughts on natural skin care products. I hope you enjoy it!

I believe that the kind of makeup that we use today will have a big impact on us tomorrow.  There are  various articles online that talk about the potential harm that could come from using too much of certain ingredients in our makeup ranging from  cell damage to  cancer!   I’d like to cover what I think we should try to avoid and also some natural extracts and oils that we can definitely benefit from.

Some of the things that I myself try to avoid are  synthetic colours, parabens, toluene, phthalates and  hydroquinone. Each of these has potential side effects when used in large quantities / over time.  Fortunately for us there are MANY makeup companies that use all natural ingredients. One of my personal favourites is Jane Iredale, but there are many many other brands such as Origins, Ecobella etc , so you dont have to search far & wide!

So what are some of the things from Mother Nature that CAN work in our favour? my TOP 5 picks are below:

Avocado Oil

KEY BENEFITS:  hydrating, softening

Avocado oil, the latest beauty miracle, contains a high concentration of vitamin E, which is fantastic to heal and hydrate the skin. Avocado oil can serve as a great make-up remover, but also contains sterolin –  a substance which is known to facilitate softening of the skin!

Pomegranate extract

KEY BENEFITS:  antioxidant, anti-aging

Pomegranate is known for its antioxidant properties. It is very effective when you want to moisturize your skin., but it also boosts the production of collagen, which means that it is a good anti-aging product. In addition, this natural ingredient protect the epidermis (outer layer of cells that make up the skin) which mens less damage over time!

Rosemary leaf extract

KEY BENEFITS:  antioxidant, anti-aging, anti-acne

Like the pomegranate extract, rosemary leaf extract also has antioxidant properties. Additionally, Rosemary is rich in iron and calcium and is known for slowing down ageing of the skin because if it’s cell regeneration properties.  Rosemary face masks are very effective as acne treatment. That being said, you can make  your own home-made mask with rosemary and cucumber.

Cucumber fruit extract

KEY BENEFITS:  softening, hydrating, calming

Cucumber is rich in minerals, potassium and sulphur. These nutrients are used for softening and hydrating the skin. This makes it the perfect ingredient for skin cleansers. I It is also very gentle and will not irritate the skin.

White tea leaf extract

KEY BENEFITS:  antioxidant, anti-aging

White and green teas have the highest antioxidant properties as far as teas go.  Additionally, properties of white tea can inhibit enzymes which decrease the number of proteins such as collagen and elastin, which are key anti-aging ingredients.

So there you have it – my top 5 picks. Feel free to share your picks/thoughts on this subject :)
